Why a new paradigm is needed
The primary driving need for America, now, is to establish a robust commercial human spacefaring industry—the new “leg” mentioned previously—and the need to establish a space solar power industry to replace fossil fuels. While the need to do this is urgent, this is not now happening. America’s aerospace industry has not stepped up to the plate and taken on this challenge. Instead, they continue to focus their commercial activities on providing services to the existing three components of the American space program where the paradigm for success is well understood. Similarly, no existing Federal Government agency has taken on the role of championing space solar power and the building of the enabling spacefaring logistics infrastructure. Their focus is on managing their respective current areas of responsibility where they understand what it takes to be successful with relatively low career risk. Expecting true change along these lines is false hope.
